All About Me, Myself & I

I am a mom of three great children ages 24, 22 and 18. I have been happily married for 25 years.

I began doing family child care thinking that I would only watch children until my own children started full time school. I opened my child care doors in the winter of

2001 when my second child was born, with little more than my experience as a mom, a few portable cribs, and some books and toys and some help from a licensed agency (wee watch). When I moved to Barrie 18 years ago I continued with private daycare out of my main living space for a very small number of children at which time I became pregnant with my last son. Our area was brand new and was not fully developed at that time so the demand was not there for childcare as Barrie was much smaller than it is now.

After the birth of my last son I decided to go get my school bus licence and interact with children on a different level for a short time, if anyone could handle 40 noisy 5-13 year olds while driving a large yellow object through Barrie it would be me. This gave me the opportunity to give my newborn and other two children my undivided attention for a little while. I was able to take my older children to school and pick them up on my route which worked out wonderful. After two years I realized that I loved being home with our children and I loved knowing I was helping out other families, but I still planned on getting a "real" job eventually.  Along with our changing family my attitude began to change; I enjoyed family child care so much that I decided to continue as a child care provider, and my "in-between" job ended up turning into a career.

I had decided that I would continue as a child care provider indefinitely so I focused on making my business more professional and improving my knowledge through research so I could provide higher quality care fueled by my desire to be a professional child care provider - not just someone who "watched" children.

Which brings me to NOW.... For the last 16 years I have loved teaching children and I find childcare very rewarding, even though all my children are fully grown now I still will continue to use my role to prepare other peoples children for the transition into school with lots of love and worksheets!!LOL
